The University of Pécs, the oldest university in Hungary, was founded in 1367. Today it is one of the largest Institutions of Higher Education in the country. As all the other medical schools in Hungary it is listed in the WHO’s directory of Medical Schools. The International Program started more than 30 years ago and hosts more than 4000 foreign students taught in English and German from over 110 countries.

The University of Pécs is located in the uniquely beautiful, vibrant and lively city of Pécs – a proper, multi-campus university town – which was designated to be the European Capital of Culture in 2010. The large international student population has become essential part not only the university but of the city’s everyday life as well. In 2017, the city of Pécs has received the UNESCO Global Learning City Award.

Faculty of General Medicine

In the first or Basic module the students become familiar with the structure and functions of the healthy human body. In the second, Preclinical module the formation and features of the pathological processes are studied and the students become acquainted with the basic patient examination skills. In the Clinical module the specific diseases are taught and diagnostic and therapeutical skill of the students will be developed.

 

 

Faculty of Dentistry

In the Basic module of first two years the students are taught basic sciences – medical and dental courses – which are the foundation of clinical dentistry. In the Pre-clinical module students become more familiar with the intensive clinical study of each of the various disciplines of dentistry that they continue with in the Clinical module with more emphasis on the assessment and management of patients. Furthermore, in this final module students participate in elective programs, clinical conferences and hospital based practices. After the successful completion of the program, students are awarded the title Doctor of Dentistry.

 

 

Faculty of Pharmacy

The diploma programme consists of five years of basic and special studies. The first two years are devoted to the basic sciences. The 3rd, 4th and 5th years specifically concentrate on the special pharmaceutical sciences. After the 2nd, and the 3rd years, students take part in practical training in public pharmacies or at a pharmaceutical company in Hungary or in their home countries. In the 9th semester students must submit a written Thesis, and in the 10th semester they are engaged for 6 months in a practical training program in public and hospital pharmacies. After the practical training period, students take examinations in the presence of the State Board, where they have to prove their skills in pharmaceutical sciences (both practical and theoretical).
The Dr. Pharm. diploma entitles the bearer to work in public and hospital pharmacies, laboratories, pharmaceutical works, pharmaceutical research institutes, international commercial trade of pharmaceuticals, and management of pharmaceutical materials.

 

 

Faculty of Health Sciences

The Faculty of Health Sciences was established as a part of the Medical University of Pécs by the Minister of Health and Social Welfare in 1989 in order to offer courses for health care specialists leading up to the BSc degree. Today, after the integration process leading to the University of Pécs, the Faculty of Health Sciences is an independent organizational unit among the ten faculties of the University. Students can choose from eight types of specialisation. Post-graduate courses are also offered by the Faculty and it is also actively engaged in the in-service programmes given to various actors of health services.
